The bushcraft internet repeats five myths every year. Most of them are wrong.
Myth 1: Stainless is always inferior
Modern stainless (14C28N, MagnaCut, AEB-L) outperforms a lot of legacy carbon steels in toughness and edge retention. The “stainless is weak” rule is fifty years out of date.
Myth 2: Bigger is better
A 16-inch kukri is impressive on Instagram and useless after 60 minutes of carry. Match the length to the work, not the photo.
Myth 3: One tool to rule them all
A kukri is an excellent chopper. Pair it with a small folder for fine work; don’t fight your kukri to do featherstick work.
